The newly established research group “ReSpace! – Connected Response-able Spaces and Infrastructures for Sustainable Living“ is advertising the position of ReSpace! General Manager. ReSpace! is a cutting-edge initiative at Technische Universität Braunschweig, bringing together a vibrant, interdisciplinary team committed to rethinking space and spatial reconfiguration in response to climate change, resource shortages, societal and environmental transformations. ReSpace! is funded by zukunft.niedersachsen, a funding programme of the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony (MWK) and VolkswagenStiftung, as part of TU Braunschweig’s project “Ecoversity – Collaborative space for change”.

The postdoctoral position of ReSpace! General Manager will be based at the Spatial Analytics and Crossdisciplinary Experimentation Lab, SpACE Lab at ISU – Institute for Sustainable Urbanism, Department of Architecture, TU Braunschweig, which is headed by Prof. Dr. Vanessa Carlow. The aim of ReSpace! is to advance an integrated understanding of how spatial infrastructures and typologies can be transformed for climate adaptation – addressing resource constraints and societal demands in the complex interplay of global and local impacts. Building on cross-disciplinary collaboration between architecture and urban design, the humanities, social and natural sciences, and engineering, the group will co-design, narrate, simulate, and evaluate innovative solutions for future sustainable living in the context of climate change and resource scarcity. Partnering with actors – cities, municipalities, NGOs, non-university research institutions and industry – ReSpace! focuses not only on developing spatial role models, but also on transferring knowledge to regional and institutional stakeholders. ReSpace! lies at the intersection of two of the four of the TU Braunschweig’s core research areas Future City and Mobility.

YOUR TASKS
You will focus on overall project organization and management and realize the possibility for own scientific development. This will include:

• Supporting the project speaker and entire research team in the implementation, coordination and realization of ReSpace!
• Fulfil typical project management tasks, including administration of project resources, documentation of ReSpace!‘s progress, quality management and reporting
• Cooperating with the TU Braunschweig Ecoversity project members
• Take care of all other practical tasks in relation to running a large collaborative research project
• Support press, public relations and science communication work and maintain the website
• Coordinate PhD students to meet their individual and overall project goals
• Initiating, organizing and managing the cooperation with practise partners, scientific partners and other researchers, from municipalities, planning entities, NGOs and industry
• Organize project meetings, academic events and other gatherings
• Contribute to the securing of additional (research) funding
• Not at last, develop your own research field or interest
• Author and/or co-author publications

• An above-average academic degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in any of the fields involved (e.g., architecture, urbanism, planning, engineering, or related)
• Capacities and skills to deeply engage in inter- and trans-disciplinary research, based on intellectual openness towards other (than own) disciplines and will to cooperation
• Highly developed communication skills and interest in science communication
• Profound methodological knowledge and research experience as well as a passion and ability for academic writing
• Proven experience in acquiring third-party funding and developing project proposals
• Intercultural experiences and skills
• Willingness and skills to work independently and in an interdisciplinary team, as well as with partners from outside of academia
• A very good command of German and English is required – since activities of ReSpace! will be conducted in both
