The Chair of Language Practices in Media Cultures invites applications for the position of

Academic staff member (postdoc) (f/m/d/x)

(up to salary group 13 TV-L, full time, currently 40 hrs./w)

The appointment is initially limited to three years with the possibility of extension for another three years (in accordance with WissZeitVG).

Responsibilities | Your tasks:

  • Teaching 4 SWS (2 seminars of 2 hours per week per semester) for the linguistics and cultural studies programs on bachelor and master level within the thematic area of the professorship
  • Supervision of students (incl. bachelor and master theses) and conducting exams
  • Research (50% of the working time) for qualification in the context of a habilitation
  • Support of research activities at the chair as well as participation in the academic self-administration

Requirements

Qualifications | Your qualifications profile:

  • Above average M.A./M.Ed. degree in linguistics and a very good PhD in the area of media linguistics or cultural linguistics or sociolinguistics
  • A research/habilitation project within culturally oriented media linguistics (e.g. with a thematic focus on gender/queer linguistics, language and discrimination, language and social differentiation, human-machine or human-animal relations, posthumanism)
  • Experience in teaching at university level and in academic self-administration
  • Interest in interdisciplinary work at the intersections of linguistics, media studies, cultural studies, and social sciences, particularly in the interconnectedness of language and society.
  • Very good knowledge of English and/or German (at least C1 in one of them). If the candidate has no prior knowledge of German, it should be acquired in the course of two years. Additional language skills are beneficial.
  • Knowledge of corpus linguistic methods or corpus-based discourse analysis is desirable
