to be filled in a joint appointment procedure with the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e.V. at the earliest possible date.
Tasks
The Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems IPMS in Dresden is a leading research institution focused on the development and testing of electronic, mechanical and optical components on the basis of micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) and micro-opto-electro-mechanical systems (MOEMS) and on integrating them into intelligent systems. Working in tandem with industry and the public sector, Fraunhofer IPMS develops market-ready solutions, especially for the fields of smart industrial solutions, medical and health, and quality of life. Fraunhofer IPMS is a leading research institution for the development and testing of electronic, mechanical and optical components. It has locations in Dresden (headquarters), Cottbus and Erfurt. Fraunhofer IPMS is currently being led jointly by Prof. Harald Schenk (executive director) and Prof. Hubert Lakner (until the end of September 2024).
In your new role, you (m/f/x) will act as an expert representative for the themes and topics of focus in both research and research and technology management as you work with research funders and partners and will build on the strategic links between TUD and Fraunhofer IPMS. Within the joint institute management, you will shape the scientific and economic success and the future viability of Fraunhofer IPMS. You will be responsible for heading the divisions Nanoelectronic Technology as well as Data Communication and Computing, which together comprise approximately 150 employees, in keeping with the principles of the Fraunhofer model. In addition to defining the areas of focus for research work, you will be responsible for project acquisition, knowledge transfer to industry and the HR-related and organizational structure of these divisions. You will be the point of contact for key stakeholders from the funding policy segment, industry and the research sector.
Requirements
You have in-depth professional knowledge and skills in research and technology in the following fields:
- Semiconductor processes and technologies on 300-millimeter wafers
- Operation of industrial cleanrooms, including production control systems and contamination management
- Materials science, CMOS-compatible dielectric, ferroelectric and metallic thin films
- Information storage, energy storage, sensors and energy harvesting
- Research on substitutes for harmful and rare raw materials and all-around reduction of process materials.
As well as having many years of experience in leading large interdisciplinary and applied research groups, you also have experience in the strategic planning, acquisition and implementation of large-scale national and international research and development projects in a range of business areas, along with expertise in enhancing the efficiency of development processes and in technology utilization. Experience with working and teaching in an international context and/or with managing international projects as well as involvement in science policy circles are a plus. The requirements for appointment, the official duties and the administrative status are governed by §§ 59, 69, 71 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSG) and the Saxon Regulation on Official Duties at Higher Education Institutions (HSDAVO).
