Technische Universität Berlin
Faculty III - Institute of Biotechnology / Medical Biotechnology
Technische Universität Berlin offers an open position:
Research Assistant - 0.6667 working time - salary grade E13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen - 1st qualification period (PhD candidate)
Tasks
The aim of the qualification (PhD), is to create a complex model of gastrointestinal organoids in a microfluidic system (organ-on-a-chip). The group is interested in better understanding the human gastrointestinal tract, its barrier function and interaction with pathogens. Our group uses human stem cell-derived organoids as a model for the human gastrointestinal tract, and we combine this technology with system-wide approaches such as RNA-seq and targeted approaches such as CRISPR/Cas9-mediated knockout. The gastrointestinal organoid will be combined with another organoid (e.g. bone marrow) on a microfluidic system (chip) and then applied either for basic research (innate immunity) or as an alternative to animal models in drug testing (tumor research). Contribution in teaching is required.
Requirements
- Successfully completed scientific university degree (Master, Diploma or equivalent) in life sciences, e.g. biomedicine, biochemistry, medical biotechnology, biology
- Previous knowledge of cell culture of human primary cells
- The ability to teach in German and/or in English is required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills
- Advanced expertise in cell culture of human primary epithelial cells and immune cells
- Advanced expertise in cell culture and bioinformatics applications
Desirable:
- Ability to work in a team, communication skills and high motivation to contribute own ideas is expected
- Previous experience in cell culture and bioinformatics applications
- Previous knowledge of infection biology, microbiome or organ-on-a-chip will be positively evaluated
- Experience in the other methods mentioned in the job description
