PhD student position in Natural and Life Sciences


Working field:

The DFG Research Training Group GRK 2318 "TJ-Train" offers one PhD positions (E13 65 %) at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. The Research Training Group analyzes different aspects of tight junctions (TJ) in epithelial cells. The project at Charité offers research on functional aspects of tight junctions in epithelial barrier function, the topic of the project is "Role of the tricellular tight junction in inflammatory bowel disease".

Your area of responsibility:

  • Planning, organization and implementation of scientific studies
  • The methods include cell culture, molecular and immuno-histochemical methods, confocal microscopy, and electrophysiological techniques
  • Independent evaluation and documentation of the results
  • Writing of scientific publications
  • Participation in scientific events and presentation of results at congresses
  • Participation in the qualification program of the Research Training Group


  • Very good University degree (equivalent diploma/master or engineer) in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology
  • Strong scientific motivation
  • Special interest in cell biology and in functional and pathophysiological-translational issues
  • Very good communication and writing skills in English
  • Personal initiative, skills in teamwork, organization and logistics
