Technische Universität Dresden - BIOTEC, Professur für Zelluläre Netzwerke und Systeme

Technische Universität Dresden (TUD), as a University of Excellence, is one of the leading and most dynamic research institutions in the country. Founded in 1828, today it is a globally oriented, regionally anchored top university as it focuses on the grand challenges of the 21st century. lt develops innovative solutions for the world's most pressing issues. In research and academic programs, the university unites the natural and engineering sciences with the humanities, social sciences and medicine. This wide range of disciplines is a special feature, facilitating interdisciplinarity and transfer of science to society. As a modern employer, it offers attractive working conditions to all employees in teaching, research, technology and administration. The goal is to promote and develop their individual abilities while empowering everyone to reach their full potential. TUD embodies a university culture that is characterized by cosmopolitanism, mutual appreciation, thriving innovation and active participation. For TUD diversity is an essential feature and a quality criterion of an excellent university. Accordingly, we welcome all applicants who would like to commit themselves, their achievements and productivity to the success of the whole institution.

Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x)

At the Biotechnology Center (BIOTEC), an Institute of the Center for Molecular and Cellular Bioengineering (CMCB), the Chair of Cellular Circuits and Systems (Prof. Dr. Henrik Bringmann) offers a position as

Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x)

Working field:

Sleep is essential, yet its molecular functions are not known. Sleep is induced by sleep-active neurons that control important aspects of physiology such as longevity, health, learning + memory, metabolism and reproduction. This project will study how sleep-active neurons control physiological benefits at the molecular level in mouse models of sleep loss or sleep gain. The mouse work of the Chair encompasses modern genetic methods such as conditional alleles and stereotactic injection of AAV, electrophysiology, behavioral assays, omics analyses and imaging.

The successful candidate will hold an excellent university degree (MSc or equivalent) in biochemistry, molecular biology, neuroscience or a related discipline. It is expected that the candidate has excellent English communication skills. The PhD student should have a high internal motivation, the ability to work both independently as well as a team, and should have good organizational skills. Experience with mouse models and the respective formal qualification is desired but not absolutely necessary.
