The Pro­fess­or­ship in Cul­tural Man­age­ment is an integ­ral part of the Insti­tute for Con­struc­tion and Art His­tory (IBK), a centre of rese­arch and teach­ing in the human­it­ies that is uni­que in Ger­many. The IBK is in turn situ­ated wit­hin a fac­ulty ded­ic­ated to archi­tec­ture, civil engin­eer­ing and urban plan­ning. A pri­mary area of con­cen­tra­tion in teach­ing and rese­arch is cul­tural her­it­age.

The Pro­fess­or­ship in Cul­tural Man­age­ment con­trib­utes the per­spect­ive of cul­tural gov­ern­ance to this mul­tidi­scip­lin­ary rese­arch envir­on­ment. The focus is on inter­na­tio­nal as well as stra­tegic, eco­nomic, eth­ical, and admin­is­trat­ive aspects of the man­age­ment of cul­ture and cul­tural her­it­age. The sub­field of Her­it­age Man­age­ment is affil­i­ated with the Pro­fess­or­ship in Cul­tural Man­age­ment.

Teach­ing is cur­rently focu­sed on the fac­ulty's inter­na­tio­nal (Eng­lish-lan­guage) study pro­gram­mes in cul­tural her­it­age, some of which are deli­ve­red in online for­mats. The abil­ity to teach in Eng­lish is there­fore a pre­requis­ite.

Bey­ond the cul­tural her­it­age focus, the Pro­fess­or­ship also rep­res­ents the field of Cul­tural Man­age­ment in other study pro­gram­mes wit­hin the fac­ulty (e.g. Archi­tec­ture, Build­ing His­tory and Art His­tory) as well as in inter­dis­cip­lin­ary cour­ses and pro­gram­mes offe­red by the BTU Cott­bus-Sen­ften­berg.

Other duties res­ult from the require­ments set by § 42 Bran­den­bur­gisches Hoch­schul­ge­setz (Hig­her Edu­ca­tion Act of the State of Bran­den­burg - BbgHG) in con­junc­tion with § 3 BbgHG.

We are look­ing for a per­son­al­ity who will rep­res­ent the field of Cul­tural Man­age­ment in all its dimen­sions. The suc­cess­ful can­did­ate will have a wealth of exper­i­ence in the aca­demic ana­lysis of cul­tural man­age­ment tog­e­ther with its dis­cour­ses, the­or­ies, meth­ods and prac­tices. He / She / They will be well-ver­sed in cul­tural dip­lomacy and will be famil­iar with stra­te­gies and pro­ces­ses of inter­na­tio­nal coo­per­a­tion. Exper­i­ence in the acquis­i­tion of exter­nal fund­ing as well as in the imple­ment­a­tion of extern­ally-fun­ded pro­jects is expec­ted. Rese­arch top­ics should be rel­ev­ant to the Ger­man Rese­arch Found­a­tion (DFG) or com­par­able inter­na­tio­nal rese­arch fund­ing agen­cies.

Teach­ing exper­i­ence, pre­fer­ably in var­ied cul­tural and edu­ca­tio­nal con­texts, is a require­ment. The abil­ity to offer high-qual­ity cour­ses on the sub­ject mat­ter rep­res­en­ted by the Pro­fess­or­ship is essen­tial. This inclu­des top­ics such as sup­port­ing and advan­cing cul­ture and her­it­age, man­aging and fin­an­cing cul­tural insti­tu­tions, and imple­ment­ing stra­tegic plan­ning pro­ces­ses. Act­ive par­ti­cip­a­tion in the struc­tured PhD pro­gramme in Her­it­age Stud­ies at the BTU Cott­bus-Sen­ften­berg is expec­ted.

Cul­tural man­age­ment pro­ces­ses reflect a com­bin­a­tion of the­or­et­ical and prac­tical approa­ches. For this rea­son, pro­fes­sio­nal exper­i­ence out­side aca­demia, espe­cially in lead­ing pos­i­tions in inter­na­tio­nal cul­tural insti­tu­tions, is an advant­age.
