Working field:
The Professorship in Cultural Management is an integral part of the Institute for Construction and Art History (IBK), a centre of research and teaching in the humanities that is unique in Germany. The IBK is in turn situated within a faculty dedicated to architecture, civil engineering and urban planning. A primary area of concentration in teaching and research is cultural heritage.
The Professorship in Cultural Management contributes the perspective of cultural governance to this multidisciplinary research environment. The focus is on international as well as strategic, economic, ethical, and administrative aspects of the management of culture and cultural heritage. The subfield of Heritage Management is affiliated with the Professorship in Cultural Management.
Teaching is currently focused on the faculty's international (English-language) study programmes in cultural heritage, some of which are delivered in online formats. The ability to teach in English is therefore a prerequisite.
Beyond the cultural heritage focus, the Professorship also represents the field of Cultural Management in other study programmes within the faculty (e.g. Architecture, Building History and Art History) as well as in interdisciplinary courses and programmes offered by the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg.
Other duties result from the requirements set by § 42 Brandenburgisches Hochschulgesetz (Higher Education Act of the State of Brandenburg - BbgHG) in conjunction with § 3 BbgHG.
Requirements:
We are looking for a personality who will represent the field of Cultural Management in all its dimensions. The successful candidate will have a wealth of experience in the academic analysis of cultural management together with its discourses, theories, methods and practices. He / She / They will be well-versed in cultural diplomacy and will be familiar with strategies and processes of international cooperation. Experience in the acquisition of external funding as well as in the implementation of externally-funded projects is expected. Research topics should be relevant to the German Research Foundation (DFG) or comparable international research funding agencies.
Teaching experience, preferably in varied cultural and educational contexts, is a requirement. The ability to offer high-quality courses on the subject matter represented by the Professorship is essential. This includes topics such as supporting and advancing culture and heritage, managing and financing cultural institutions, and implementing strategic planning processes. Active participation in the structured PhD programme in Heritage Studies at the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg is expected.
Cultural management processes reflect a combination of theoretical and practical approaches. For this reason, professional experience outside academia, especially in leading positions in international cultural institutions, is an advantage.
Please refer to §§ 41 paragraph 1 no. 1 - 4a and 43 BbgHG for Prerequisites and conditions of employment.
