Working field:

Research and teaching assistant at the chair of Water Quality Engineering (Wasserreinhaltung) at TU Berlin. Our research group works in the area of surface water quality with a focus on microbial ecology; works at the interface/combination of biology and mechanistic modeling; is diverse (see website "About us"), consisting of German (6) and international (1), male (4) and female (3), and PI (1), post-doc (2) and PhD (4) researchers. We are part of a dynamic research environment with collaborations in Berlin and worldwide. We meet weekly as a group and individually. Working options are flexible, i.e. in the office or partly home office. The presentation of research results at national and international conferences is supported. Aufgaben:

  • Research in the field of water quality engineering with a focus on surface water quality, incl. cyanobacteria and their toxins in Berlin’s lakes and microbial ecology and biogeochemistry
  • Mathematical modeling
  • Measurements of water quality in lakes, laboratory experiments
  • Teaching in Master and Bachelor-level courses in Environmental Science and Engineering: Oberflächenwasserqualität: Schutz und Sanierung, Surfacewater Quality Modeling, Agent-Based Modeling (exercises and lab/field sessions), and others

Requirements:

  • Successfully completed university degree (master, diploma or equivalent) in Environmental Science or Engineering or in a related discipline with focus on water quality
  • Good knowledge of mathematics (incl. differential equations, numerical methods)
  • Experience in computer programming
  • Experience in analytical methods for water quality
  • Experience in preparing scientific contributions and teaching material
  • The ability to teach in German and/or in English is required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills
