Working field:

The Database Systems and Information Management (DIMA) Group (https://www.tu.berlin/en/dima) conducts basic and applied research in data management, big data, and data science in conjunction with the Berlin Institute for the Foundations of Learning and Data - BIFOLD (https://www.bifold.berlin/) at TU Berlin (https://www.tu.berlin/en/). Currently, we are seeking to hire a Deputy Research Group Leader (tenure track) who will develop and advance a research agenda in one or more of the following areas: (1) technologies and systems for the management and processing of massive amounts of distributed data, (2) scalable data analytics infrastructures that exploit the hardware-software co-design of components for data storage, search, data processing, community management, and market mechanisms, including security, pricing, and privacy, and (3) technologies and systems for responsible data management that ensures data science processes are transparent, repeatable, and traceable. The research undertaken will include the guidance of doctoral students. In addition, the position carries teaching duties and the coordination of interdisciplinary research activities.

Requirements:

Applicants must have successfully:
(i) completed university studies with a focus on database systems and earned both a Master's (alternatively, a Diploma or the equivalent degree) and a PhD from a highly-reputable institution. Further scientific experience as postdoc in scientific institutions or research labs is desirable;
(ii) achieved several publications at outstanding (i.e., CORE A*) conferences (e.g., SIGMOD, VLDB) and journals (e.g., VLDB Journal, TKDE);
(iii) demonstrated deep analytical skills as well as extensive knowledge in the concepts, methods and technologies employed in data management and scalable data systems (developed via practical experience);
(iv) experienced in the acquisition, cooperation, management, and coordination of projects;
(v) a keen interest in developing new research directions, a strong ability to work in teams, and very good English language skills. The ability to teach in both German and English is required
