The scope of the position covers teaching courses in bachelor's and master's programs on the fundamentals of mechanics - statics and elementary strength theory, kinematics and dynamics, energy methods of mechanics and continuum mechanics - as well as advanced topics such as contact mechanics in engineering, tribology, experimental investigation of contact problems or biomedical applications. Courses are taught in German and English. Courses on the fundamentals of mechanics are taught exclusively in German.
Research fields cover experimental research as well as theory and simulation. Possible topics include the investigation of joints in structures, taking into account elastic, viscoelastic and plastic material behavior and tribology, as well as their influence through the modification of surfaces and dynamic effects. Work on the further and new development of methods and simulation procedures in close relation to specific applications is desired. Simulations are validated and accompanied by corresponding experimental investigations. Applications can be found in all technical sciences, for example in the areas of traffic and machine systems, medical technology and biomechanics. References to thermodynamics and modern forming, manufacturing and joining processes, such as additive manufacturing, are also welcome. In addition to tribology, research fields dedicated to efficient implementation in production and biomechanics are particularly desired.
Further responsibilities include leading and managing the chair and its staff; the advancement of junior scholars, women, and diversity, and knowledge transfer; initiatives to promote internationalization; gender and diversity competence, and sustainability-oriented action; as well as committee work.
Hiring requirements are as defined in Section 100 of the Berlin State Higher Education Act (BerlHG). These include a university degree in a relevant engineering or science subject such as mechanical engineering or civil engineering, a particular aptitude for academic work, generally demonstrated by the quality of the candidate’s doctorate, additional academic qualifications or achievements, such as a positively evaluated junior professorship, a habilitation or equivalent, as well as an aptitude for teaching demonstrated by a teaching portfolio (for further information, please refer to the Technische Universität Berlin website https://www.tu.berlin/go209650/
Excellent knowledge and experience in experimental, theoretical and simulative methods of contact mechanics and/or tribology acquired in industry and/or research institutions are essential.
Experience of managing staff, research project management, the advancement of junior scholars and knowledge transfer are important as is gender and diversity competence as well as understanding of issues of sustainability.
