Technische Universität Dresden - Center for Molecular and Cellular Bioengineering (CMCB), Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD), Chair of Neural Development and Regeneration

Technische Universität Dresden (TUD), as a University of Excellence, is one of the leading and most dynamic research institutions in the country. Founded in 1828, today it is a globally oriented, regionally anchored top university as it focuses on the grand challenges of the 21st century. lt develops innovative solutions for the world's most pressing issues. In research and academic programs, the university unites the natural and engineering sciences with the humanities, social sciences and medicine. This wide range of disciplines is a special feature, facilitating interdisciplinarity and transfer of science to society. As a modern employer, it offers attractive working conditions to all employees in teaching, research, technology and administration. The goal is to promote and develop their individual abilities while empowering everyone to reach their full potential. TUD embodies a university culture that is characterized by cosmopolitanism, mutual appreciation, thriving innovation and active participation.

For TUD diversity is an essential feature and a quality criterion of an excellent university. Accordingly, we welcome all applicants who would like to commit themselves, their achievements and productivity to the success of the whole institution.

Research Associate/ Postdoc (m/f/x)
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)
Start date is negotiable, but can be as soon as possible. The position is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and will initially be limited for 3 years. Working field:

Zebrafish, in contrast to humans, can replace neurons after spinal injury from endogenous stem cells (Becker and Becker, Development 2022). We have begun to unravel a signalling pathway by which immune cells instruct spinal stem cells to generate new neurons after injury (Cavone et al., Dev Cell 2021). Using single cell genomics and epigenomics, the postdoc will develop a mechanistic understanding of this unique phenomenon and directly test important factors in vivo using CRISPR/Cas9 technology. This project will elucidate the principles of stem cell re-programming for neurogenesis and thus identify new targets for therapeutic approaches in non-regenerating species.

Requirements:

university and PhD degree in biology or related fields; high motivation, and expertise in at least one of the following areas in any model species:
  • genomics and bioinformatics;
  • generation of genetic animal models;
  • in-vivo imaging and time-lapse microscopy;
  • neuroanatomy and histology.
The international Center operates in English and therefore good knowledge of both spoken and written English is a requirement.

How to apply:

Informal enquiries should be directed to catherina.becker@tu-dresden.de.
TUD strives to employ more women in academia and research. We therefore expressedly encourage women to apply. We welcome applications from candidates with disabilities. Please submit your application including a CV, statement of motivation, and the names of at least 2 academic referees by March 2, 2023 (stamped arrival date applies) preferably via the TU Dresden SecureMail Portal https://securemail.tu-dresden.de by sending it as a single pdf document to eike.lau@tu-dresden.de or by mail to: TU Dresden, CRTD, Professur für Neuronale Entwicklung und Regeneration, Frau Prof. Catherina Becker, Fetscherstraße 105, 01307 Dresden. Please submit copies only, as your application will not be returned to you. Expenses incurred in attending interviews cannot be reimbursed.
