for the Chair of Business Analytics and Systems.

The position is financed through the Berlin initiative for the promotion of equal opportunities for women in research and teaching (Berliner Programm zur Förderung der Chancengleichheit für Frauen in Forschung und Lehre).

Working field:

Research and teaching in the field of Business Analytics and Systems: In nearly all areas, companies possess large amounts of data acquired through the use of information systems. In recent years, business analytics, the analysis of such enterprise data using modern IT technology, has attracted significant interest and become increasingly important in research and practice. Data-oriented methods are used to support evidence-based and economically significant decisions in companies. To achieve this, new information systems and tools are needed which provide business analysts with low threshold access to methods and data visualization. The position holder will research new systems and tools to make business analytics methods more accessible in companies. Through teaching, they are also expected to strengthen (business) informatics students’ skills to use and understand enterprise data in an evidence-based manner and to use data-oriented techniques to identify trends and improve business processes. In addition to close cooperation with other academic chairs at TU Berlin specializing in business informatics and computer science, they are expected to work closely with the other Berlin universities as well as national and international partners from research and industry.

Further responsibilities include leading and managing the department and its staff; supporting the advancement of junior scholars, women, and social diversity; knowledge and technology transfer; initiatives to promote internationalization; gender and diversity competence, and sustainability-oriented action as well as committee and commission work.

Requirements:

Candidates must fulfill the hiring requirements pursuant to Section 100 BerlHG (Berlin State Higher Education Act). These include a university degree; a strong aptitude for scientific work (as a rule demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate); additional academic achievements (as a rule demonstrated by a positively assessed junior professorship or Habilitation or habilitation equivalent, as well as teaching skills and experience demonstrated by a teaching portfolio (further information about the portfolio is available on the TU Berlin website https://www.tu-berlin.de/menue/einrichtungen/praesidium/projekte_des_praesidiums/neuberufene/berufungsportal/bewerbung/lehrportfolio/parameter/en/).
In addition, you must be established in your field with an international reputation and be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge as well as relevant publications in the area of the design and development of systems and methodologies to support data-driven decision-making in organizations and business process improvement. The inclusion of methods from operations research and machine learning is desired. Possible areas of focus include:
  • Design and concept for business analytics systems
  • Process mining and process analytics
  • Analytics for fields of applications, such as healthcare, logistics, production, etc.
  • Application of operations research and machine learning in business analytics
  • Visual analytics for business analytics systems
  • Analytics and society

Applicants are requested to include a research and teaching concept with their application. Experience of supervising final theses and academic self-governance as well as participation in external-funding or joint projects are expected. The successful candidate should possess the requisite skills for leadership and for the advancement of junior scholars and women as well as in the area of gender and diversity. Experience in knowledge and technology transfer is just as important as sensitivity to sustainability issues.
