Tech­ni­sche Uni­ver­si­tät Dres­den (TUD), as a Uni­ver­sity of Excel­lence, is one of the lea­ding and most dyna­mic rese­arch insti­tu­ti­ons in the coun­try. Foun­ded in 1828, today it is a glo­bally ori­en­ted, regio­nally ancho­red top uni­ver­sity as it focu­ses on the grand chal­len­ges of the 21st cen­tury. lt deve­lops inno­va­tive solu­ti­ons for the world's most pres­sing issues. Raman scat­te­ring of Kagome metals

The posi­tion is star­ting at the ear­liest pos­si­ble date for a period of 16 mon­ths (max. until Decem­ber 2025). The period of employ­ment is gover­ned by the Fixed Term Rese­arch Con­tracts Act (Wis­sen­schafts­zeit­ver­trags­ge­setz - WissZeitVG).

Working field:

Explore novel Kagome metals by means of Raman scat­te­ring as a func­tion of tem­pe­ra­ture and unia­xial strain. The aim of the expe­ri­ments is to cla­rify the inter­play of (topo­lo­gi­cal) super­con­duc­tivity and elec­tro­nic order, test theo­re­ti­cal pro­po­sals and search for new insta­bi­li­ties and pha­ses. The pre­sent pro­ject is embed­ded into the Clus­ter of Excel­lence ct.qmat, in which phe­no­mena, mate­ri­als, and app­li­ca­ti­ons of topo­lo­gi­cal phy­sics are stu­died. You will in par­ti­cu­lar be working with experts in state-of-the-art dif­frac­tion and spec­tro­scopy. In addi­tion to expe­ri­ments at exter­nal large-scale faci­li­ties, our group also uses world-lea­ding instru­ments in its own labo­ra­to­ries. Excel­lent con­di­ti­ons for top-class rese­arch are thus pro­vi­ded. Own rese­arch activi­ties and ideas as well as the acqui­si­tion of own third-party fun­ding to extend the time of this appoint­ment are stron­gly sup­por­ted.

Requirements:

uni­ver­sity and com­ple­ted PhD degree in expe­ri­men­tal solid-state phy­sics; hands-on expe­ri­ence with Raman scat­te­ring as well as inte­rest in rese­arch at syn­chro­trons and free-elec­tron lasers; fur­ther­more: enthu­si­asm for basic rese­arch, abi­lity to work in a team and orga­ni­za­tio­nal talent, a very good com­mand of Eng­lish.

About ct.qmat: The Clus­ter of Excel­lence is a joint pro­ject of Tech­ni­sche Uni­ver­si­tät Dres­den and Julius-Maxi­mi­li­ans-Uni­ver­si­tät Würz­burg, fun­ded through the Excel­lence Stra­tegy of the Ger­man Government since Janu­ary 2019. ct.qmat unites 200 sci­en­tists of both uni­ver­si­ties and five non-uni­ver­sity rese­arch insti­tu­tes from the areas of phy­sics, che­mi­stry, and mate­ri­als sci­ence. ct.qmat’s basic rese­arch aims to under­stand, design, and con­trol solid-state-based topo­lo­gi­cal sys­tems.
