Technische Universität Berlin - Faculty II - Institute of Chemistry / BasCat, UniCat-BASF Joint Lab

Research Assistant - 0.6667 working time - salary grade 13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen - 1st qualification period (PhD candidate) - Heterogeneous Catalysis - BasCat

BasCat is a JointLab of the Cluster of Excellence UniSysCat and BASF at the Technische Universität Berlin. Its main focus is heterogeneous catalysis as key technique for meeting the challenges of the future: Avoidance of carbon dioxide emissions, use of carbon dioxide and polymer waste as raw material, and efficient generation and usage of hydrogen. New raw material sources, catalysts and processes are mandatory in order to yield an essential contribution to a sustainable, energy- and atom-efficient circular economy (carbon cycle). BasCat and its academic and industrial partners work in multi-disciplinary teams at the interface of base research, engineering and data science with the goal to transfer their gained knowledge from research to industrial application.

Working field:

Reactions using carbon dioxide or polymer waste as raw material (hydrogenations), smart dehydrogenation reactions (to olefins and hydrogen) or ammonia reforming as supply of green hydrogen will be of high importance in near future. Novel, for this purpose prepared catalysts (single-atom catalysts, nanoalloys, single-atom alloys) need to be characterized using dedicated in situ methods (e.g. FTIR coupled to profile reactors, thermogravimtery). Additionally, ex situ characterization via standard methods (e.g. nitrogen physisorption, XRD) and advanced methods (electron microscopy, XPS) is needed. Combining all results from complimentary methods will finally give access to identification of the active state of catalysts and the formed reaction intermediates. Partaking in teaching is expected.

Requirements:

Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in chemistry with above-average success is mandatory. Necessary is an in-depth understanding of heterogeneous catalysis and expertise in the area of instrumental analysis. Practical experience in catalyst (in situ) characterization is expected. Practical experience in catalyst synthesis or testing is an advantage. Fluency in German and English is considered as a plus.

How to apply:

Please send your application with the reference number II-332/22 and the usual documents (e.g. cover letter, CV, copy of the certificates of your Diplom/Master and BSc, a summary of your Master thesis and a publication record, all combined in a single pdf file, max. 5 MB) by email to Emanuela Toussaint (contact@bascat.tu-berlin.de).

By submitting your application via email you consent to having your data electronically processed and saved.
