Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x)

At the Faculty of Biology, the Chair of Microbial Diversity offers a position as

Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x)
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting at the earliest possible date. The position is limited to 36 months and entails 65 % of the full-time weekly hours. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (usually PhD).

Tasks

This basic research project funded by the German Science Foundation (DFG) aims at elucidating the spectrum of substrates for energy conservation, and the role of methyl-coenzyme M reductase in the process of strictly anaerobic methanogenic model organisms. To this end, genetic, biochemical, and molecular methods will be employed. The group is superbly equipped for anaerobic lab work. Requirements

university degree (Master or Diploma or comparable) in Biology or related disciplines with a clear emphasis of Microbiology and/or Biochemistry/Molecular Biology. We seek a highly motivated scientist proficient in microbiological, biochemical and molecular techniques and above-average commitment. Experience in working with strictly anaerobic microorganisms is highly appreciated.
