The Insti­tute for Ion Beam Phys­ics and Mater­i­als Research is ded­ic­ated to the study of mater­i­als and their nano­struc­tures that can be con­sidered for future applic­a­tions in inform­a­tion tech­no­logy and are based on elec­trical, mag­netic or optical func­tion­al­it­ies.

As part of the Insti­tute, the Depart­ment of Mag­net­ism invites applic­a­tions as

PhD Stu­dent (f/m/d) Approach­ing Maschine Learn­ing with Non­lin­ear Mag­netic Hard­ware

The pos­i­tion will be avail­able from 1 Janu­ary 2023. The employ­ment con­tract is lim­ited to three years.

Working field:

  • Exper­i­mental invest­ig­a­tion of dynamic phe­nom­ena in fer­ro­mag­netic nano-/micro­struc­tures
  • Time-resolved Bril­louin light scat­ter­ing micro­scopy and mag­neto-optical Kerr micro­scopy
  • Dynamic and static elec­tric trans­port meas­ure­ments
  • Sample fab­ric­a­tion includ­ing elec­tron beam litho­graphy, UV litho­graphy and react­ive ion etch­ing


  • Mas­ter degree in the field of Phys­ics, Elec­trical Engin­eer­ing, Mater­i­als Sci­ence or Nan­o­tech­no­logy
  • High motiv­a­tion for self-organ­ized research in the field of exper­i­mental phys­ics and elec­trical engin­eer­ing, in mag­non­ics, spin­tron­ics, nano-elec­tron­ics and neur­omorphic com­put­ing
  • Team-minded, high interest in cooper­a­tion with local col­leagues and inter­na­tional part­ners
  • Struc­tured and goal-ori­ented organ­isa­tion of work
  • Good eng­lish skills, spoken and writ­ten
